Sticky Spyware

By Ironspider ·
Does anyone have a suggestion for removing some spyware/adware from one's computer? I've tried the following programs/sites: adaware, windows defender, norton, stinger, spybot and scanning at Nothing has worked.

W2K, all current patches.

What messages or symptoms did you get?

I get popups like crazy (I have to use a popup blocker to keep them at bay). Everytime I run a scan (adaware for instance) I get over 100 results. It 'removes' them, and over X amount of time, they regenerate. I don't know (probably is) if there's more than just popups, but it's taking up room on the computer and fraggin it.

Here's my HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE>SOFTWARE>Microsoft>Windows>CurrentVerison>Run Picture:

Removing spyware

Did the scan at find any spyware? If so, you have to buy the product (Spyware Doctor) to remove the spyware. Another excellent product is Spy Sweeper, at Likewise, if the free scan detects anything, you have to buy the product to remove what it finds.

I hope this helps.

If ..."Nothing has worked"...

How can you tell?

I'm wondering, too

Here are a few very thorough tools I use:
X-Cleaner Micro:

But... just wondering... What makes you believe that 'Nothing has worked?'
What's going on that makes you think there is still a spyware, adware, malware issue?

I'm not questioning your judgment, I'm just curious.... because using Ad-Aware, X-cleaner, CWShredder, Stinger, & AVG have served me well for years.

It may be that a HiJackThis cleaning is in order.

oh... BTW... it's a good idea to do scans in Safe Mode when possible so that all pieces found are removed completely.

Nothing works because

by Ironspider In reply to I'm wondering, too

"Nothing works" because after any/all scans, with or without reboot, safe mode or otherwise, the friggin thing respawns itself.

Thanks for the listed 3 cleaners, I'll post later as to if anything works there.

Unless I've missed something somewhere...

by OldER Mycroft In reply to Nothing works because

This "friggin' thing" that respawns has, so far, gone unmentioned.

What infection are you trying to kill?

How does it manifest itself?

What is it doing that annoys you?

the infection

I don't know what it is. Scroll up and look at my registry picture. It renames itself everytime it respawns. It causes massive popups that not all popup blockers block. It's also causing my drive to fragment more frequently.

Whisper, whisper: . . .

I'm beginning to think this infection is an unrecognised normal sys op that he thinks is a virus!
