    Still getting screen freeze

    Locked

    by loodoo ·

I have just installed Win2k and have the SP2 upgrade installed. I still get screen freeze in certain applications. Especially when running anything graphics related, multiple windows or even as simple as pinball. Is there a fix or a new graphics card that might solve my problem?

      Look at

      http://support.microsoft.com, Q261606.

You do not say if you have the VIA AGP chip set, if so this may be your problem.

      Good luck.

check your virtual memory make sure your setting are where their supposed to be and the amount of ram is very important (128+) for your virtual mem inital= 1 1/2 of your actual ram and max= 3 times your actual ram.

      I hope that can help.

I am new to Win2K and not familiar with this procedure. Any instructions would be very helpful. I have 512meg of meemory so I do not forsee a problem with this suggestion. Thanks in advance.

You stated it happens in graphics related instances, yet failed to mention your graphics card (amount of video memory,etc..) I’d download the latest drivers for whichever graphics card you have, check the latest HCL on microsoft.com to determine ifyour graphics card is listed there, and then up your vmem settings. Remember to keep your hard drive defragged.

oh and your processor/physical memory should fall within the recommended guidelines (ignore the minimum..w2k will work, but just barely)

The card is a NVidia TNT64 and I have downloaded and installed the driver for 2000. I have read other posts on defragging and have done so with O&O Defrag 2000 Professional.
