Still worth learning Java?

By info ·
Hello all,

A couple of days before MS decided to drop Java from their future plan, I was ready to study Java but now....I'm not so sure.

Let's look at this objectively,

1. Regardless of what we/I think about MS, they do have a good shareof the market and whatever they do... it will affect the outcome of technology (i.e betamax vs. VHS)... whether we like it or not.

2. Should I still learn Java?

Any feedback would be great.

I don't know if I can make that decision for you, but this information from a recent "eWeek" article may help.

Microsoft's welcome Java jump

"I think that Microsoft's move away from support for (read: control of) Java on the Windows platform will end up being a good thing. After all, there are a number of virtual machines out there that will Java-enable one's Windows box, and Microsoft's eventual exit from the space would leave users freer to choose the JVM best suited to the task at hand......."
