STOP MULTIPLE MESSENGER POPUPS

By jay ·
HOW CAN I STOP WINDOWS MESSENGER POP UP BOXES AFTER I HAVE ALREADY GONE INTO GROUP POLICY AND ENABLED MESSENGER TO "NOT" RUN AT ALL?!!!

I GET MANY BOXES AND THEY SEEM TO BE ADS OR SOLICITATIONS FOR GETTING RID OF THESE VERY ANNOYANCES.
IS THERE A PLANTED SOFTWARE ON THE COMPUTER OR A TROJAN, ETC???

i assume windows xp?
to get rid of those popups, you want to stop the windows messenger service from starting up at boot.
go into control panel/services or right-click My Computer and pick Manage, then Services..
find the Windows Messenger service and choose Stop. then change the Startup type to Manual. Note: this is not Messenger service, a needed service, it is Windows Messanger...
if you have to ask if you might have a Trojan then get yourself some anti-virus software and get it up to date and do a thorough scan in Safe mode...
also visit www.lavasoft.com and download the free version of Ad-aware. it will scan your hard drive (a lengthy process) for 'data miners' and other 'planted' software and help you quarantine, then delete theoffending files...
