Stopping search menu

By baassoc ·
Double clicking any file always brings up a search menu. I would like a double click to open the file. On any other computer that I use a double click opens the file. Have not found any way to change this.

Just finished cleaning spyware out of a pc exhibiting this problem. Keep rescanning until your spyware checkers come up with zero infections. If the problem still exists afterward, you may have to do a repair or reinstall from the CD. Malware programs often break parts of the OS.

Just remember to run these scans in Safe Mode so that they get rid of everything running them on an infected unit in normal mode may be nothing more than a waste of your time.

Also check that your mouse buttons haven't been reversed.

Control panel - mouse - switch primary and secondary buttons.

The solution has been found. It is NOT a spyware or virus problem. It is a bug in windows. Scott Dunn gave the solution provided by Peter Terry of Millsboro, Delaware in the August 2005 issue of PC World Magazine, Windows Tips. It was a matter of typing "none" in the value data box HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\Directory\shell
