Storage + library + data transfer

By mubangud ·
Currently I am looking for a soluation in software storage, data transfering and software library.

I am have been trying to find a solution in moving all software ware CDs onto a server or (W.O.R.M) server that will allow users to access the old software whenever needed. Access is needed through remote capabilities for users not connected to my LAN. How would I go abotu achieving this? Also what is the best form of data transfering out there that will allow me to remotely transfer data from one server to another. I have been looking at Citrix but still don't know if this is the best approach.

1) Storage would indeed be on some shared device in the LAN. Copy CD's with Windows Explorer or Xcopy or similar.
The subquestion 'Also what is the best form of data transfering out there that will allow me to remotely transfer data from one server to another'

I cannot understand fully. What is remote in this sense, if all of your servers are on the LAN?

2) For _accessing_ the software remotely, some dial-up or VPN solution is needed. So essentially the remote user gets a TCP/IP level connection to your LAN and that way accesses the software. Usually they would copy the needed stuff to their locacation, either with Xcopy or with running G:Setup.exe which then does the transfer.

A tool like Citrix (or Terminal Services) seems not to fit at all in what you describe. With Citrix basically you access a remote _installed_ application, not an uninstalled CD with that software. Installing an app under Citrix can be quite timeconsuming, many need some tweaking and tuning...
