Strange bird-like chirping noises coming from random computers

by mischief . Updated 17 years, 4 months ago

I manage several computer labs at a community college, and have recently found several, at different sites, that randomly make a series of bird-like chirping sounds. The sounds are in a sequence of one, then two, then three chirps, then it stops. It may start up again or not. All of these computers have been imaged and all have hard drive lock out protection on them. Is there some sort of registry hack that someone might have loaded, or spyware that would infect something other than the hard drive? They are all running Symantec AntiVirus. Also, all of the computers are muted. The sound seems to come from the back of the computer, but it random enough that I can’t pinpoint it. Does anyone have any ideas what to look for?
