Strange file sharing request

By geniusmonkey ·
I have a strange request from a user. The user wants a shared folder on the server, where number of users can copy files, but they should not be able to view/copy/open other users files. Is it possible? Please help.

Yes, if the server uses NTFS, then you can set folder security to allow all users access to one "staff shared" folder instead of all the specific user folders in the same directory. Just right click on that "staff shared" folder --> properties --> security --> add the group and assign rights.

The other folders should only have the user name and the administrator (in order to du backups), and not the group.

If I am misreading the above, and you want a shared folder for everyone to be able to access their own stuff but not others' in that same shared folder, then that is doable from the owner/user perspective. The file "owner" will need to add the user name to the file and allow him or her rights to that file (these could be set to authenticate with network logon).

Anna777,
Can you explain "The file "owner" will need to add the user name to the file and allow him or her rights to that file."? If the user gives the rights to himself only then how will my user open the file?
