strange keyboard behaviour on laptop

By info ·
I recently bought a used Dell lattitude c800 laptop
Installed xp pro on it everything works fine except the right shift key doensn't seem to work correctly.
You don't get Capital letters by usi8ng it. However in Ms Words the combination of the right shift key and > does change the font size.
Any idea's ?
Or is it just broke !!

Hi

The quickest way to determine if the key is not responding would be to type in another application.

Also, go into the Keyboard applet in Control Panel and make sure the correct keyboard is listed, also, make sure the keyboard entry in Device Manager is valid.

Good luck

check to see if a key remapping utility is being used. If so either uninstall it or remap the key as shift. Does the key seem to have some function in any program (like IE)?

With Dell laptops after you try everything else and if your key/s/ still are not working with your system turned off, turn it over and make sure the screws that hold the keyboard a snug.

Dell's have a problem with the keyboards coming loose, it can be only one screw or more. Becare do not overtighten.
