Strange monitor flickering

by karl . Updated 22 years, 9 months ago

This one has me stumped…(sorry for the length)

We have recently moved the location of a graphic design studio from one large room to a smaller room on the same floor of the same building. The new room has recently been re-wired for both power and cat5 network cables. The equipment in the room is all set up in a similar way to how it was previously except it is now just a little more cramped.

The problem we have now is that our design monitors (all big and very expensive) are now intermittently flickering throughout the day and this is driving the designers mad…who in turn are driving me mad. The strange thing is that this is not going on all the time, an hour here and an hour there, and it is not affecting any standard monitors in the room at all.

I have tried turning off all equipment except one machine, the problem is still there. I have run power in from a different phase in the building, still the same problem. I have even disconnected the cat5 and it still is there.

My thoughs are that this is some type of electromagnetic interference from outside the room. There is a bakery below but they don’t cook during the day and 2 brand new air-con units outside the building about 5 metres away.

If any one has any thoughts on a solution it would be greatly appreciated.

Cheers….Karl.
