When I boot Windows XP Home (purchased, legitimate), I get a strange window popping up after the splash screen and before the “Welcome” screen.
There is no text in the window, no text in the title bar, a couple of strange ascii characters in the upper left corner of the window proper, and only an option to press “Okay” to close the window.
I have no idea what this window is. I’ve tried various troubleshooting steps (Windows Install Cleaner; Registry Cleaners; unplugging everything but my AGP video card; various Start-Up managers) with no success in identifying or getting rid of it.
