    Strange WinXP Pro boot problem?

One of our WinXP Pro SP2 PC’s acted strange. When the user switched it on this morning, it didn’t boot up properly.

It halted before it got to the “Windows XP” with progress bar screen, and it just listed the microsoft logo vertically on a black screen. The user left it switched on for several hours and it just stayed on that screen. When the machine was rebooted, the problem didn’t occur.

It’s a fairly new machine and I’ve never seen this problem before and I can’t really google it either.

    Can anyone help??

download the utilities from the hard drive manufacturer and test the hard drive. Scan for bad system files. Reseat the memory and the hard drive cables. Whenever I have this problem it usually turns out to be one of these with a bad hard drive being the problem over 90% of the time. Good Luck.
