Strip OLE objects from Word under Linux

By gza ·
I am looking for an application under Linux that is able to remove OLE objects (embedded files) from Word documents, or at the very least be able to detect the presence of them.

Anybody know of any such thing?

I'm not sure if this will help you or at least maybe head you off in the general direction...but if you are familiar with perl you can use it and a module to manipulate data in word and excel. Here is the web site that gives the skinny:

I don't know of a tool specifically designed for detecting or removing OLE objects, but you should be able to build it using abiword as a foundation. The basic parsing for word docs is already implemented for you. The current state handles importing most word docs. You can get the source from www.abisource.com
