stumped by proliant 800!!!!

By ogwonu74 ·
ok, here the lowdown.....

i try set up nt4.0 on this proliant 800. i decided
to start from scratch. so i apply system
erase....no problem.

on restarting smartstart, i get the error
message that no physical or logical disks
were detected.....problem

i'm told to run the sytem erase utility again...so
again i run it and then, on boot up i see after
checking scsi devices, the message no scsi
devices detected or fail ....more problem

figured that my array was not detected,so
downloaded options rompaq ( full release,
among other utilities) from the compaq site,
however whe i try to create the bootable
diskettes, i get the message " program too big
to fit in memory"(wonder why?)...and this is
from a 256mb 1600 proliant.....

must confess that though it's a wee bit
frustrating, i'm kinda enjoying it - i'm
learning....

so, what gives? anyone out there enthusiastic
enough to throw a flashlight my way?

thanks

create a bootdisk from bootdisk.com with extended memory, meaning you need the:
device = himem.sys
device = emm386.exe noems
and the files himem.sys,emm386.sys,
load dos high,umb
in your config.sys with the device files pathed correctly. That should up your DOS base memory.
Good luck, keep us updated with any changes.

Have you tried booting the system with the NT Boot Floppies? I have seen this issue several times before, especially when using SCSI systems. Make sure you have the appropriate drivers for your system on hand, boot from the floppy disks and try it again. If that doesn't help, let us know and I'll dig a little deeper.

Good luck...hope this helps!

When do you see the message "no disks detected"? During the system POST or when you're installing the OS? If its during the OS install then you simply need the correct array controller driver on disk and press F5 when you see the bule NT screen.
If its during POST then you need those disks...follow hte instructions above for the boot disk or create them on a regular workstation...you shouldn't have trouble creating them at all on a normal Windows 95 or higher PC.
