Subnetting Downtime

by ted . Updated 18 years, 8 months ago

We are planning on migrating our current 10.0.0.0/24 network to /22 which will expand our network as we need.

All servers are Win2003 Stnd R2

To implement this new mask, would you recommend the following?

Update Subnet in ADSS on all DC’s (to save ntfrs time)

Update static address stack on each server

Edit existing /24 listings on our Firewall

I shouldnt have to touch DNS servers

I also shouldnt have to touch DHCP servers

Then I will add DHCP to another server with maybe.. 10.0.2.0 network and point all wireless access points to this network

One of our static servers hosts our website, which basically can never go down. This is our main worry. Where/when would we lose connectivity during this reconfiguration of our big network?

So the main question here is, How long would things be down for? This is a generic network question and should be viewed as such 🙂

Thanks again for the help!
