Suggestions for simple LAN monitoring & tools software

By john ·
Hi all

I am trying to find a simple piece of software that will monitor users usage of our 5 client LAN, that uses DSL ICS on the main machine, with a wired LAN, also fitted with a wireless "access point" on the hub.

I am hoping to find something that will also allow me to throttle certain machines LAN usage and also to put a cap on daily usage.

Any suggestions folks ?

( oh and preferably a freeware product  )

Traffic Monitoring and Manipulation

by vince In reply to Suggestions for simple LA ...

There are a few ways of doing what you want to do but just as many variables to consider when doing it. Traffic Monitoring is much more simple than Shaping but both can be done using Linux.

Also you might want to have a peek at Ntop and Nbox. I don't know if currently nbox comes with traffic shaping capabilities but it's an interesting enough project to check out anyways.
