Support for the soon-to-be terminated

While this hasn’t happened to me yet, but I’m guessing
it’s only a matter of time. . .

Suppose you’re made aware of some (non-tech) staff
member was to be let go within the week. For purposes
of this discussion, we’ll go ahead and assume that the
aforementioned staffer has NO IDEA what’s to come.
Upper mgmt. has, of course, issued a strict order of
silence regarding the upcoming “event.”

Now, say about a day into their final week, the staffer
wants you to walk them through downloading thier
entire mailbox/contact list to thier computer at home.
This presupposes that this is not an unusual request,
and that people from assistants to executives regularly
call for help like this.

What would you do? Saying, “no,”post-termination is
certainly imaginable, but a salesperson’s contact list
(for example) would certainly beneficial to them (and
the organization) while they’re at home. Noodle on this
for me. I’m leaning toward “go ahead.”

Thanks
