Surveillance cameras are everywhere, but how much do they actually help in

Surveillance cameras are everywhere, but how much do they actually help in preventing crime rather than just recording incidents? Do criminals see them as a strong deterrent, or are there ways they work around them? Also, what features make a CCTV security camera monitoring system truly effective for businesses and homes?

You didn’t reveal what crime or such your are asking about.

And no, these are just part of securing a site. Anyone that thought cameras were prevention is very new to the security theater.

They do very little to prevent crime of any kind. The next thing is that when something happens it has to be in rang of the individual camera so it can be recorded.

Then you need to know the actual time of the incident and look through the stored footage around that time which can take a long time if you are given a 4 hour period of the crime you have to look through at least 5 hours of footage 30 minutes either side of the alleged crime and hope something passed the camera.

So in answer to your question they do very little to stop any criminal activity even if you have stickers on windows saying that this place is under constant video surveillance but they will help to catch the perp when to do do something and can be used in evidence in court to convict them.

I think it depends on multiple things on the quality of the camera because that can affect the video so it could look worse, I think it also could be a scare tactic, but cameras don’t normally get every detail of the fae they are used to get hair color and height, weight, etc.

Surveillance cameras can deter crime to some extent, but determined criminals often find ways to bypass them, such as wearing masks or avoiding detection zones. Their real value lies in providing evidence for investigations. A truly effective CCTV system should include high-resolution recording, night vision, motion detection, remote access, and AI-powered analytics for proactive security.

Cameras are effective at capturing evidence, but their deterrent effect depends on visibility and monitoring. Features like motion detection, cloud backups, and AI-based alerts improve their effectiveness.
