SuSE SLES 10.2 new install - can't find raid

By jdclyde ·
I am (trying to) install SuSE SLES 10.2 on a HP poweredge 2400, with raid5.

The controller is an Adaptec ALC 7890 v25701, PERC2/DC.

From a morning of googling, I am reading that they don't include the older raid controller in the kernel. I have not yet found how to add this in.

I have worked with boottime loadable drivers before, but never took this long to find answer.

Any ideas? Thanks!

jd

got the driver on floppy?

by Jaqui In reply to SuSE SLES 10.2 new instal ...

if yes, choose the expert install, vga-low and you can get the driver selection to let you load the driver from floppy.

NOTE: I have seen Adaptec drivers lock a system up under Linux. They are known to be buggy, the roms from Adaptec that are needed for the cards.

When I go to the Dell site, it only lists firmware

by jdclyde In reply to got the driver on floppy?

and not a driver? I have downloaded this and it is on a floppy. after looking at it, it looks like a lower version.

If I look with Windows for the OS, they have a driver, but not for SuSE.

Searching on the Novell site, but not finding it there either.

I had also typed in expert at the install screen and it just takes me in the same as if I had clicked on the installation option.

SLES support got me an answer

by jdclyde In reply to SuSE SLES 10.2 new instal ...

Even though the Raid card is not on their certified list, they hashed it out and got me an answer that worked. I am on disk 4 of 4 on my install right now.

The solution:

At the install screen, select Instillation and then type in:

insmod=megaraid insmod=aic7xxx

That was my answer for it to install.

Thanks to Jaqui for looking into it for me.
