I’ve been reading about the tool for the AMI Bios, HDPREPEZ and HDPREP. I have a user who has a WinBook XL. He had a boot sector virus and decided to format his hard drive. He originally used HDPREPEZ, according to the displayed message, which read “Run HDPREPEZ…”. I read that I need to have a version of this utility that matches the BIOS version and that I may also have to flash the BIOS as well. When I called the tech support for this laptop, they told me the hard drive or controller sounds bad. I don’t think that is the case. I tried to load Win98 back onto his laptop and realized that he needed this utility. I’m not too familiar with laptops at all. My question is, should I try and load Win98, then load HDPREP from DOS, or should I load the utility first, then Win98? I also read that HDPREPEZ is the first release and I would need to use HDPREP if the EZ version did not work after flashing the BIOS to a newer version of later than 1.00. The BIOS version is already at 1.05, will I be OK with a 1.9 version of the utility? That’s the only version I have found to download so far. Any help would be appreciated, I’m not even sure I’m asking this question in the right context! Thanks, in advance.
