Someone I know called me and told me they personally were sending me an email. I received the email but it doesn’t look like it was from them. They sent it to my AOL email account. Here is the problem–this is the from line with just the names changed
from: “John Doe” (by way of Bill Smith). If I look at the email headers the return path says and the from: in the header says the same as the original from. My question is who actually sent the email, how was the “(by way of…)” inserted, and why would the return path show up different than the sender and show different companies? Please let me know, this is very important. I think I am being fooled. Thank you.
