SUWIN error when trying to install wind9

By ace_zapper ·
I have changed everything from memory to board to chip. When trying to install win98 I keep getting this error SUWIN? The hard drive kept getting oe errors, so I decided to format and reinstall, however I have not been successful. I have been told to replace the power unit, or hard drive. The manual states to have only a graphics card in mothboard when installing windows, however I only have an agp card and vga card. I would like to be able to install windows sometime this year, any help would be greatly appreciated.

I've seen this a lot and the reasons vary greatly. You don't give much info, so check these resources starting from the top and see if any help you:

A couple tips for you:
http://support.microsoft.com/support/kb/articles/Q187/2/68.ASP
http://support.microsoft.com/support/kb/articles/Q188/1/07.ASP
My suggestion to you is this:
Get a Win98 Startup disk:
Boot from the diskette and run the following commands in order:
fdisk /mbr
fdisk --> delete all the partitions.
Esc until prompt and reboot using the diskette.
fdisk /mbr
fdisk accept all the defaults and select 1 and accept all the defaults.
Once done, Esc to prompt and reboot, go into the Bios and select Boot sequence CD first, insert 98Cd into the CDR tray and reboot. Win98 Setup will take care of the formatting.

Good luck!

What I can suggest is you to this:
1 - format the HDD, then start the PC with startup disk (from Win 98 - I think you'll use FAT 32)
2 - use FDISK to remove all partition(s), restart and after that make one (or more if you need)
3 - format the new partition(s), restart and make the disk system by writing this to the command prompt:
A:\sys c:
4 - restart and boot the PC from C:
5 - install Win 98.
You shouldn't get this error again. If you get it, change the HDD and try. If everything is OK, your HDD is damaged. If you get the error again, you HDD is OK, you'd better thange the motherboard.

Hope I helped you

Best regards

Try formating the harddrive and installing windows with all the hardwares, ignore the manual because usually there's no problem installing windows with all the hardwares hooked. Installing windows with only the display card is when you have problemsor conflict between any hardware. I've also experienced the SUWIN error when installing windows before, so what I did was I tried using a different Windows Installer CD. Before that make sure to to boot from your Windows BootDisk, then delete and create a new partion using fdisk, format and system the harddrive (a:\format c:/s) and finally install the Windows. If you still get the SUWIN error, take out your harddisk and install windows to your harddisk in a different computer, and put the harddisk back to your old computer when done. Then install all the drivers if it's successful.
