Swapping Drive

By leopold.durrant ·
My old drive had some bad sector, so before it go bad I replace it, but to avoid installing all my software again is there a way to copy all the data from the old drive to the new drive including the Windows 98. How can do this without installing Win98 and all my software?

Most new drives come with some type of software (on a floppy disk) which enables you to copy the entire contents of one drive to another. It may be called "EZ drive" or something similar. Both drives must be installed on the system and you may have to boot with the floppy disk.

Use ghost. Ghost will harf on it's shoes when it encounters the bad sector, so before starting Ghost up, type Ghost /? and find the proper switches for dealing with bad sectors.

Also, Spinrite is an excellect troubleshooting app that can recoverdata from bad sectors, move it to good sectors, and mark those sectors as bad to prevent any future writes to those blocks.

I have tried many things to do what you want to do (including ghost)and found DriveCopy by powerquest to be the easiest and quickest. Go to http://www.drivecopy.com/drivecopy/index.html for more info and to download. Good luck!
