I am trying to get the pros and cons on the following situation:
My IT department has decided to get rid of a Cisco switch to replace it with a 3com 24 port switch and connect about 20 hubs into the 3com switch. We have our users going directly into the switch now and yes the Cisco switch needs some maintainance and upgrading but has worked well. They want to save money and so they decided to take the Cisco out and replace it with an inferior new switch and install hubs on that switch and thenconnect the nodes to the hubs rather than straight into the switch. We have about 220 nodes and we ran out of room on the Cisco switch.
What impact will this have? What are the pros and cons?
