switch verses hubs

By jsarinana ·
Does anyone have a good answer to the quest why is using a switch verses a small switch with many hubs is better ?

well, are you saying, what is the difference between switch and hub? switch reduces network traffic by keeping segments isolated. maybe not an advantage if you have only one segment like in small network. are you sure you don't mean router not switch? or are you asking a wiring design question? it should work fine to have small switch/router and several hubs. but for expandability, ease of maintenance and overall lower cost of ownership i bet on large/cascaded switch(s) and one wall jack for every lan device. the switch is not the big expense it is the wiring in the walls. but maybe having said that i'd rather have inexpensive switch AND A SPARE for that single point of failure. if you have good wire decent quality hubs you won't see much problem. but you don't describe your network and that makes big difference
