Switches and Hubs in Wiring Closet

by russellrl2 . Updated 25 years ago

I inherited a wiring closet with a hodgepodge of switches and hubs. I have the following:

5 – CISCO 2900 series enterprise switches (CISCO 2924C is the main switch wired to the router)
1 – BAYSTACK 350T switch
1 – HUBSTACK SEHI100TX-22 switch
1 – Cabletron FN10
8 – Allied Telesys CentreComm 3624TR Hubs (mounted as 4 pairs)

Grouping of users is not feasible as users work multiprojects and jump from project to project frequently. In the process of buy a new switch each monthto replace the hubs.

I don’t fully understand the uplinks on the CISCO 2924XL-EN switches. I see that port 23 & 24 are uplinks. If I plug something into both, it shuts down the users.

What would be the best way to connect the switches and hubs for maximum efficency.
(i.e. connect each lower switch by an uplink to the top switch and connect hubs to switches). How would I use both uplink ports on the CISCO switch.

Is there a good source of information on this. I get lost paging through CISCO.
