    switching between IP configurations

Is there an easy way to choose between multiple TCP/IP configurations on bootup on a Windows 2000 laptop? I could use a 3rd party utility but I think there’s a way to do it within W2K.

what i have done in the past for pcanywhere users needing this is:
export registry snippets for each configuration. make a batch file that incorporates them and place the batch file or a shortcut to it on the users desktop, with an descriptive name. users seem to have little trouble with this…

      Thanks for the tip.
That’s the technique I used on Win9x laptops, but I’m having trouble finding the right registry keys in Win2K. Something that could be used either dynamically or on boot would be best.

On my laptop, I simply set up different hardware profiles (Control Panel>System>Hardware>Hardware Profiles) to reflect the different network and tcp/ip configurations. It’s quick, and offers you a menu at boot up to select your settings. I for example have LAN, Work LAN, RAS, Wireless, Test LAN and Docked profiles. It has made moving my laptop around relatively painless.

Take a look here for more information:

Delete any spaces in the URL. Good luck…hope this helps.

I tried that before, but for it doesn’t work for me. I copied the original congif’n, renamed it, rebooted and selected the new one. Configured it, rebooted and selected it again. So far so good. Rebooted and selected the original, and it gave me thesame config’n as the new one. They’re not saving their individual settings.

      Hi,
You can do this using the netsh command which is built in to the OS. Some details can be found in article 257748 available at microsoft.com/technet

      entitled

“How to Use the NETSH Command to Change from Static IP Address to DHCP in Windows 2000” Which also covers assigning IP details to an interface. You can load the ip details of your choice via a batch file depending on where you are. Hope this helps…
