Hey folks,
So I’m in my final year at university (majoring in communications, not tech lol), and lately, I have been seriously considering a pivot into IT. I know super random, right? But with everything going remote, AI blowing up, and people landing solid jobs after a few bootcamps, it kinda feels like tech’s the move.
One of my roommates was studying to become a nurse, but after the pandemic, she burned out and went full throttle into cybersecurity. She’s now doing a paid internship with a fintech company and loves it. Honestly, hearing her talk about packet sniffing and firewalls is wild, but also kinda inspiring.
I’ve messed around with HTML/CSS for fun, but never really thought I could get into tech without a comp-sci degree. Now I’m wondering if that’s just a myth. I mean, do employers even care about degrees anymore? Or is it more like—show me the skills and you’re in?
Anyway, I’m looking at maybe doing a cloud or networking cert post-grad. Still figuring it all out. If anyone here made a career switch or got into tech without a tech background, I’d love to hear how you did it. Did you struggle? Was it worth it?
Drop your experience (or advice!) if you’ve got a sec.
Appreciate it
