Mmm.. running XP on a W98 hardware ? ...

Even if you were successful, the new host may not be powerful enough to run XP at any appreciable speed.

The reason it won't work at present is that the HAL (Hardware Abstraction Layer) is set up for the machine that XP was installed to - which is different to where you have just fired up the hard drive.

There are ways to get around your difficulties but without knowing the precise detailed specs of both machines, I doubt that it would be prudent to get your hopes up.

So, re-installing XP would be your best bet.

If the Win98 box is capable of running XP decently.

It is sometimes possible to fix the install in your situation, but it is a potentially painful process, and may not work. (Hence OM's comment about not getting your hopes up.)
