Switching real-time orders in .NET

By tinus ·
Hi,
I need to convert our VB6 real-time order system to .NET We run a couple of retail outlets that re-order stock automatically per line item as needed in real-time. In VB we used a FTP system.
What resources are available in .NET to do this job.
Any suggestions would be appreciated.

Regards,

Well you can take the opportunity to get rid of that lot

Personally I'd look at a webservice to accept reorder requests, given you are saying the remote unit 'calculates' a reorder requirement(s) and then punches over a file of them now to process. Instead send an xml document to a reordering service.

Big benefot is you can leave all your current suff alone, or even run in parallel to another db / table so you can check it's all golden without disrupting current operations.

Thanks for your reply, Tony.

Man, do you have pointers to a kickstart for webservices?
I have been thumbling on the net for information but failed to retreive a big picture of how to do webservices? I mean the client and server side with monitoring, reports, management, security and all that.
