Syncing Calendars from Various Accounts & Devices

    by aceyalone ·

What is the best way to syncronise calendars across multiple accounts across multiple devices?

I am currently working with Outlook which has all my accounts, which is 9 email addresses. Various personal and work accounts.

I have an account which is shared across the family, this is a google account and calendar entries can be seen no problem when viewing via smartphone [Samsung Galaxy S10], however the same calendar account on Outlook on my laptop has the text [This computer only], so entries in the calendar are not synced to my laptop.

My work emails are through IMAP and not 365, so I understand there’s no way to sync these accounts across devices. I currently have the work accounts setup in Outlook on laptop and Outlook on phone, but on the Outlook calendar on the laptop I do not see how I can the calendars for these accounts. On the phone they’re already present.

My workaround at the moment is to use an Outlook account which is separate and this has the ability to add, display and sync across devices.

I don’t know the best way to simplify this, or whether I can have an IMAP account that is able to sync across devices easily?

Thanks in advance for any replies!

There is none from what I’m told.

Your requirement includes “easily.” Also, Microsoft has for decades pushed us to setup Exchange Server to sync this and now is pushing 365. So given what you have, again, there is no easy.

You write “work emails” so why isn’t this something your workplace IT is fixing?

Ha, no I’m self employed so I am IT and everything else!

I’ve just tried sending a meeting invitation via one account to the other [both IMAPs] as a test. The odd thing is, Outlook on laptop doesn’t recieve the invitation email, but Outlook on the phone it does. Doesn’t make any sense.

          To me it makes sense.

Microsoft has for decades pushed Exchange Server as how such works. Yes, once in a while had things work in this regard but I’ve never found them to offer a working shared calendar and sync unless it was with Exchange Server and now, Office 365.

This doesn’t make sense to those new to Microsoft’ and again, how they market and push Exchange and 365.

      Syncing

Let me share an idea for an app. My very own personal combi-calender app, that runs on Windows, iOS, Android, Linux and Chrome OS.

It stores entries from all calenders in the cloud it can login to (whether from Microsoft, from Google or from Meta) into it’s very own personal combi-calender somewhere in the cloud. In fact, it also read local calenders on the devices it runs on (such as your calendar in Thunderbird or any other calendar app that happens to be there) and stores those also in it’s own combi-calender.
Refreshes every 15 minutes or more.

Of course, it warns you for any conflicting (overlapping) entries, and lets you accept or refuse meeting requests.

      Seems a must-have app.
