Syncrinization in Outlook

By thill ·
I am running Outlook 2000 on a Win98 machine, with NT 4.0 as network OS and Exchange Server 5.5. It is on a lap top and I have been trying to use Outlook's synchronization method for getting to, and writing email offline. You are also supposed to be able to get to all of your contacts and personal address book etc. Well, the synchronization works, but when I disconnect from the LAN and open Outlook, it doesn't find any of the synchronized data. It asks for the login, password, and domain. Please help!!!!

You probably did not tell Outlook that it was supposed to use the remote transport and the offline mode.

Using the profile setup wizard, answer Yes when it asks if you travel with this computer. It will set this up for you.

Manually, you have to change a few things:
Tools/Services/Microsoft Exchange Server/Properties/General/
Manually control connection state
Choose the connection state when strting.
Tools/Services/Microsoft Exchange Server/Properties/Dial-Up Networking/(fill it out)
Tools/Services/Delivery/Microsoft Exchange Remote Transport
Tools/Options/Mail Services/Enable offline use.

Good luck.

Or you could always do like I do and keep your .pst in a particular folder, with outlook closed save it to the server, and then import it. There are also options to export certain folders of your choice (inbox, etc.) into .pst(s) so you can import them. It's also nice to have the entire .pst backed up, in case of crash.
