Sys 32 folder pops up when starting XP

By beckerk1 ·
Recently, when I start up XP now, the SYS 32 folders at start up pops up on screen. Is there anyway to disable this. Thanks.

If you feel comfortable working with regedit, you could check the Software/Microsoft/Windows/CurrentVersion/Run keys for any items that would launch the explorer in this location.

Make sure to do this in both the User and Machine hives.

If you are not comfortable doing this, run MSCONFIG and check the 'Startup' tab - it may give you the same information and you can disable th esuspect entries here for testing purposes before removing the entry permanently through regedit.

This will pop up if you have blank or NULL entry in the HKEY_LCOAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\Windows\Currentversion\Run key. Find the entry and remove it, reboot, and you will not see it anymore

I would run a virus scan and check for any spy/ad ware. While it maybe nothing, the fact it's your sys32 folder, would cause concern for me. I would use one of the online virus scanner such as the one from housecall.antivirus.com this is Trend Micro's web site. Then run Spybot and Ad Aware to check you system.
