    Syslogd won’t open port

    Locked

    by ron.stinson ·

I want to send logs from a RH7.3 server to a RH9 log server.
On the RH9 box I started syslogd -r
On the RH7.3 I have one line in the syslog.conf file: *.* @xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx <=RH9 IP address. I added the service for syslog to the RH9 server, port 514/udp From another box I run nmap against box boxes and see that port 514 is open on the RH7.3 but not on the RH9 box. Both boxes are connected to the same hub, and can ping each other. No other devices or firewalls between them. Any help appreciated

I found a work around answer. I installed Kiwi Syslog Daemon on a windows box and directed my syslog entries to go from the RH7.3 server to the Windows box.
