Sysprep on different systems

By macummings ·
I have some Compaq and Gateway computers I would like to install a master Win 2000 image onto. Can I do this with one image or do I need one image for the Compaqs and another image for the Gateways?

You may get away with it with W2k, since the plug and play capabilities have been improved, but Microsoft recommends using a scripted install rather than an image. They recommend imaging only when the HALs are similar.

I have Images for most of the different types of PC's. We use all IBM and it seems none are the same hardware wise. I know you can specify different HAL's in the sysprep setup to use 1 image but I haven't tried that yet. I took the easy way out and used up some extra disc space by creating a different image per machine.
