System Boot Problem

By dmiles ·
Client says after using system for a while it froze and he used cntrl-alt del to exit
The next morning he tried booting and sys. would not boot, this is after system has been running,I am thinking partially it is user error.

The other part is the problem ,why system fails to boot
Any ideas on this would be helpful
TIA
System Configuration
ECS motherboard P4
Via chip set
Intel CPU 2.8GHZ/533FSB
256k memory

The hardware info is a good start, but is it possible to give some more information about the circumstances?

A) "Won't boot" = as in "Blocks at POST?"
B) Which OS does this client use?
C) What software was the client using at the time of the "crash"?

Thx :-)

OS=Windows ME

The system will get to startup screen and states it is updating then it hangs

The other part is that it would not boot up at all

Agree with answer #1, known problem is the Bigfoot HD, Seagate HD dying unexpectadly. Although Ram problems were the root cause of the Bigfoot problem but when it died it was dead !

More info on problem, got the computer to boot(client had switch of at power supply)

When computer boots it is very slow, boot process takes approx. two minutes, the hard drive led stays lit, scanned for virus found none.

Add to Configuration
2 Hard drives 40 and 20 gig
A CD/RW and 52X CD-ROM
This was a basic system with added components,so I am thinking that the power supply is causing the problem because it is not strong enough to power all peripherals.
Any thoughts on this

The problem seems to be the power supply, disconnected the slave and cd-rom,then booted system with no problem even the led is functioning properly.
