System crash!!

System crash!!
I run Win98se standalone. The system developed symptoms which resulted in corrupt directories. On re-instal, the volume label appears as “Le” which I am not able to delete or rename. Bootdisk dioagnostics load oaky, and the directory of C:\ appears as “fsnw created on 03-02-03; another directory is “ne”, Win9″ and there are no files!!
Some help with this problem.
