System Crashes & Reboots when copying files to External USB hard drive

by keithv . Updated 18 years, 5 months ago

When I try to copy files to my usb hard drive my system freezes then reboots. Ive tried two different drives with different enclosures and the same thing happens with both of them. I have tried connecting them to different usb ports with no luck.
Does anyone have any idea what could be causing this or how to correct it?
I also have the same problem when accessing flash memory through my card reader.
Im running an AMD 4800+ Dual under windows xp pro with sp2.
I have an external enclosure with a maxtor 300 gig hard drive and an acomdata photon 2.5″ 100 gig portable drive. Im using an ECS KN1 Extreme motherboard with a 600watt power supply and USB 2.0. My card reader is an I-Rocks and I also have a card reader in my epson rx500 usb printer. The external enclosure has its own power supply but the photon drive is bus powered.
Thanks in advance for you help
