Bummer.... but you're not giving us a lot to go on.

I assume that your Win98SE client is at home and connected to an NT4 network at the office via ISDN?

If so, does this only happen when connected? Do the lights on the ISDN show anything happening at that time?

My wild guess would be that there is a hardware problem on the Win98 machine - maybe RAM. But these can be very tough problems to troubleshoot and especially from a very brief description.

As much information as you can supply would be helpful.

I am assuming that the word2000 documents are stored on a network drive ( or in the home directory on the pdc ) . If the problem only occurs with word2000 files and not on other documents eg excel sheets or presentations storedon the network drive ,then the problem is with word2000 and you need to reinstall word2000 . On the other hand if the problem occurs with trying to access any file on the network then the problem lies in the connection ....It could be improper router configuration or dueto the improper execution of login script which maps the drive at startup . You could end task the word2000 App by pressing ctrl-alt-del and then from the dos prompt try to ping the server where the files reside ...If the connection is Ok then you could try to manually map the drive on the server ...

Thats all I can suggest with the info provided by you .....Much luck !!!!

I had similar problem.Go to <start> <find files> search for <normal.dot> highlight, then delete. Reboot then try again. Normal.dot is a template file in Word and will be recreated when you start Word again. When I did this i still kept all of the templates and word now works fine.

you didnt give us much to go on. Try running Scan disk and check the thorough option. Also, update both win 98 and nt4 to the latest service pack if you have not already done so. Check your file systems
Your NT4 may be updated to NTFS as some of the later NT's can be NTFS. W98, however will have to be Fat or FAT32. NTFS and fat are not compatable. If documents in word were created by NTFS, you cant read it with Windows 98.
Win 98 or 95 are not reliable systems. If you dont want a lot of blue screens or freezups, update to Win 2000 which is a much more reliable system. Finally check what type of file the word program was saved in.
.doc or .txt are fairly interchangable. Some of the others may or may not be. .pdf files normally require Adobe Acrobat to read them. If you have corrupt files you may want to backup, format and restore operating system. It is usually easier to do this than to spend a lot of time diagnosing corrupt files/files that are shared or in conflict.
