    Locked

    by corey ·

Having a terrible time finding a solution to this problem…….AMD450 box had problems locking up with no direct indicators…no particular program just whenever it felt like it…the only thing I noticed is when using scroll function on mouse seemed to be happening more often….ended up replacing the enire system hardware/software…still same problem….I have narrowed it to the extension cable on the keyboard or the phone line?? any direction on this greatly appreciated…need more info email me corey@bridgenet.cc

What percentage are your system resources at? I have an AMD k6/2 MMZ 400 and when I get down around 40% or lower I get lock ups. I’m curious as to why you think it might be the ext. cable or phone line?

Even if you rebuild your pc and replaced all the hardware/software. I was just wondering about total memory you have?? Because it is possible that you may need to buy more memory since that usually helps with the lockup problem. Also, if you haveMS Office toolbar, you might want to disable that one to free up the memory as well because in the past MSOffice97 toolbar has contributed a lot to the lock up problem

You don’t say what OS or MB you are running, but have you installed the AMD K6 update? You can download it and try it or you can set your mb to run your processor at 300 instead of 450. If this solves the problem, you need the update.

Also, according to which mb you have, there are several other updates you may need, especially if you have the VIA chip on your mb. If so, install the via bus master updates.

I had a similar problem with lock-ups. Turns out the new modem I installed didn’t like my BIOS’s PCI settings. After numerous settings adjustments I narrowed it down to 1 single setting. No lockups so far.

      Just wanted to share.

did you try a new mouse and keyboard? is the fan on the cpu running and is it running the right way if you plug it in backwards it will still work. also is the power supply ok if its fluxing high and low it could cause it to do strange things like reboot by itself.
