System Log Event Error

By TprattBP ·
I receive repeatedly on a member server the system log error 8032 "The browser service has failed to retrieve the backup list too many times on transport \Device\NetBT_Tcpip.... The backup browser is stopping." This server was multi-homed but is no longer & the extra NIC removed. It does see the network & I can ping by NETBIOS name. How do I correct this error?

I assume from your mention that the server was multi-homed that you know that Microsoft attributes this type of error to multi-comed configurations. If you did not uninstall the adapter in the device manager before removing the card you can remove it by going to the device manager and click on view and select "show hidden devices. Look under the adapters and uninstall any that your not using.

I thought that not removing it in device manager was a possibility but the NIC does not show up there with or w/o the hidden devices view. There is an unkown device but it is disabled.

This error may also occur if the server is attempting to get the browse list from a server that has File and Print sharing disabled. See Q254527.
You should also take a look at Q135404. It goes over the use of the browstat.exe resource kit utility which aids in troubleshooting browsing. A handy tool.
