System Mechanic

By ljackson.desoto ·
Hello-
I am one of those people who knows more than the average person about computers, maintenance, etc. and can folow along pretty well with good intructions, but do not know windows inside and out like the registry, etc. I wanted to know if anyone has an opinon on using programs such as registry mechanic and system mechanic to help clean up old files and registry entries, etc.
Thank You.

They work well for most standard programs. I've been in a lot of shops over the years that have used the products and can't recall an incident where using them caused a system to crash.

I'll second BFilmFan on this one. Haven't seen them cause any problems either. Although there is always the caveat about being careful with the registry and system files.

I use both and have not had problems. I also do use several other programs to help clean registry. I trust Registry Mechanic more.
I also use Ontrack's SystemSuite, Advance Uninstaller, Easy Cleaner, and the good ol Microsoft's Reg Clean 1.3.
I have several other tools for backup, compacting, and optimizing the registry.
