After a PC, which requires a bootup password
for access, is up and running where in DOS or Windows (ie, registry?) can the bootup password be found to edit, etc.? What is the path to it?

The startup password is not stored in the registry or hardisk. It will stored in the CMOS-BIOS chip on the motherboard. It is difficult to know what the password is,but it is very easy to bypass it or erase it and enter a new one.

The bootup or power-on password is stored on the CMOS ROM (BIOS) chip and is prompted whenever a system is started. This is set in the BIOS. You need to check the BIOS settings (pressing F10, Del, F1 keys at the startup, as per the make of the BIOS)and check for the password option. You may have to type twice the password to confirm it.
In any case, if you forget the password, the only way erasing it will be clearing the CMOS battery (discharging). For this you can just remove the battery once and place it back. Sometimes there exists a jumper to clear the CMOS. If yes, then remove the jumper, hold it for 15 to 30 seconds and put it back.

You cannot 'find' this password.
It is not in DOS or Windows.
You cannot edit it, only change it, from setup.
