System resources low

By digitalshy ·
Whenever I open Word 2000 my computer freezes. Some times I get a message that the system resources is low.

I am using Windows 98 SE with 64MB RAM.

I have reinstalled Word 2000 but the problem continues.

Sounds like your Word template could be corrupted (doesn't necessarily get renewed when you reinstall Word). It's fairly common and an easy fix:

Go to your Search menu (START/FIND)and look for Files/Folders named 'normal.dot' on your C drive.

For each instance of normal.dot found, right-click and rename it (eg: OLDnormal.dot)

Restart Word. It will see that normal.dot is missing and recreate it from scratch. If that was the cause, you should be OK now.

Having said all that - 64Mb of RAM is a little on the low side anyways, you might want to look into adding more if your computer will take it. TIP: go to www.kingston.com and search the drop-down boxes for your computer make/model. It will show you how much RAM your PC can be upgraded to.

Good luck
