system restore

By larrym ·
On Windows XP when I click on systen restore I get, ERROR 3 cannot find path specified. The properties for system restors show the path as C:\Windows\systen32\svchost.exe -k netsvcs. I cannot find the -k netsvcs file.??????? Larry

The netsvcs file has been inserted into your pc via malware. Boot into Safe Mode and run your Spyware and Anti-virus checkers (hopefully up-to-date), deleting anything they find. Then rescan with each program to make sure no problems are found on the second scans.

If the above checkers are not up-to-date, Safe Mode with Networking is the next best choice for updating and scanning.

Properties should be as follows

Target: %SystemRoot%\System32\restore\rstrui.exe

Path: %HOMEDRIVE%%HOMEPATH%

Replace with above and it should start up.

run safemode, disable system restore before doing a virus check otherwise it could repopulate in the restore directory and reinfest. there are otherways to do it, but try that first.
