System tray problem

By divine_devil87 ·
I was messing around with the taskbar and suddenly my show desktop icon is in my system tray and all I can do with it is show desktop with left click and there is a close option when I use right click but even by clicking it nothing happens. I want to remove it off my system tray.

re: system tray

Are you perhaps confusing the quick launch toolbar with the system tray? You can right click the taskbar and go to toolbars and uncheck the quick launch toolbar to turn it off.

Some things to check

by IC-IT In reply to anyone?

The first place to check - Right-Click a blank spot in the System Tray, Choose Toolbars, Uncheck Desktop.
Hopefully that was it, if not....
Then check your program start menu. It will be in the path of your user name or in the all users.

C:\Documents and Settings\user name\Start Menu\Programs\Startup

If that didn't help you can try MSConfig (from the Start - Run) and check the startup tab. IF you still can not find it check the registry for these common run areas;
[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Run]
[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\RunOnce]
[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\RunServices]
[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\RunServicesOnce]
[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\Winlogon\Userinit]
[HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Run]
[HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\RunOnce]
[HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\RunServices]
[HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\RunServicesOnce]
[HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\Windows]
