System unstable after processor upgrade.

by phildavis516 . Updated 23 years, 4 months ago

I replaced my 650 Mhz Athlon K7 processor with a 900 Mhz on a Gigabyte GA-7IX motherboard, since the replacement the system is unstable displaying fatal protection errors, locking up and requiring reboot every few minutes. I perfomed the bios upgrade from the Gigabyte website to the version that is to support up to 1Ghz. I also had contacted gigabyte before purchasing the processor and they said it would support a 900 Mhz reliably. I am running Win 98 SE and have done all the Windows updates. When I put my 650 back in the system is rock stable. All of my bios settings are set to auto, is there anything I should change to a manual setting to try to help my reliablity. My processor temp on the 900 is only 115, so I don’t believe it is temp related.
