Tablespace Calculation in Oracle

by jp-mattenet In reply to Tablespace Calculation in ...

sujit,
unfortunatelly there is no simple answer to this question. Oracle tablesapace is used in blocks, and blocks are used to store index and tables, and other objects. The size of the different objects depends on the type of information they contain (varchar, longs, etc).
Also the size of the objects is diferent depending on the version (Oracle 8 tables need more space than O7).
Oracle documentation has the formulas to calculate the space used by a row, based on the row elements. Ido not remember witch manual but i do remember that was not easy to do by hand. May be you can ask the question on http://techned.oracle.com

Try this:

select tablespace_name, sum(bytes) "Total Bytes", sum(blocks) "Total Blocks"
from dba_data_files
group by tablespace_name
