    Tablet PC orientation problem

    Locked

    by kkopp ·

    Here’s the problem:
I have a tablet PC that changes orientation (in tablet mode) to portrait after log-in, even after setting it to landscape. It will start out at landscape during start-up like I set it to before shut-down, but it reverts back every time.

    Stats on the PC:
    Toshiba Tecra M4
    Windows XP Tablet 2005 SP3

I’m probably missing something simple, but I’ve looked everywhere to make the change stick, but no joy…

This could result from several things

Start off with making sure that the Keys are not Sticking. Quite often using a Key Combination like Ctrl and a Arrow Key will alter the Orientation of the Screen but this is not permanent.

So if you need to change it permanently start off with downloading the newest Video Driver for this Tablet from the Toshiba Web Site and installing it.

      http://www.csd.toshiba.com/cgi-bin/tais/support/jsp/modelContent.jsp?ct=DL&os=&category=&moid=893054&rpn=PTM42U&modelFilter=M4&selCategory=3&selFamily=1073768664

Then enter the Video Display Options by Right Clicking on the NvIdia Icon on the Task Bar and selecting Proprieties. Then alter the Orientation of the Screen there and save the change. Reboot to see if the change sticks now.

You may also need to look at what software is installed sometimes a Software Package will alter the Way that the Display shows so you may need to alter the Display in the Software Application. If you have installed anything just prior to this occurring that would be the starting point or if you have altered the Screen Layout in an existing Package would be the starting point.

As the Display is showing correctly when the system starts but then changes as the different Drivers load it sounds very much as if something is altering the change so start off with the Video Drivers and Display Proprieties and then check any software that you use regularly for changes or any that you have installed recently.

        Thanks a a lot!
I downloaded the video drivers and installed them. I also found a program by toshiba that changes orientation (I loaded that one too.)

I’m beginning to see why this tablet is so slow. Toshiba has so much junk loaded into the background that it has no room for what you’re trying to run.

        Thanks again Col!!
