Taking a long time opening documents

By dave.raj ·
Hello All, I am having some problems here. I have Office 2000 Professional Installed on mine Win98SE machine. I have a lot of links to my documents on my desktop. Now when I click on these links it takes forever to open the chosen documents. When I go to the word or excel program and open up the documents through the menu system the documents open up quickly. So why doesnt it open up quickly from the link on the desktop? The Machine has Office 2000 sp1 and sp2.

The link on the desktop has to go and get the application and open it up first.

If you time both the opening of the application and then add the time for file --> open... then it should be similar to opening from a link.

1) Delete your normal.dot file and when Word recreates it (the next time you start MS Word, you'll probably have documents open up a lot faster.

2) Delete *.tmp, ~*.* and everything under Temporary Internet Files.

The normal.dot file is a template file that gets corrupt over time and causes real delays in opening up documents. Deleteing it usually resolves any MS Word problems.
